Thing 5 - Flickr

My Flickr name is amber.mulnix. I'm struggling a little bit with Flickr but am sure the more that I am on it will get a bit easier for me to navigate. I was able to upload some pictures, add a slideshow to my blog... I haven't figured out how to only add certain pictures... I seem to be getting all of the pics that were uploaded in my slideshow. I also played a bit with picnik. The pic that I posted is of my niece Karly. She wanted me to take a picture of her with Blake's bird Tango sitting on her shoulder.

I've checked out the Flickr blog, mapped one of my photos to my hometown, but haven't been able to locate the 'story in five frames'. Can someone help me out here?

I used Flickr once in the past but didn't do much. I think I only posted a couple of pictures. I have pictures scattered everywhere. I've used Walmart, Walgreen's, snapfish, and many others. I really want to get my digital pics organized and all in one place. This shall be one of my goals for 2010... get all of my pictures in one place!! I think online photo sharing is great. It's much easier than printing or even emailing photos to the people you want to share them with

Still need to check out BigHugeLabs.

My niece, Karly

Thing 4

90% of online community users are lurkers (read or observe without contributing) with only 9% of users contributing ‘a little’ and 1% actively contributing.

Why do you think commenting is important in online communities? I think bloggers wonder if people are reading their blog. They want to know. I follow a couple of blogs, don't know the person blogging, but thought what they were blogging was interesting and decided to save to my favorites list. Maybe someday I'll get the courage to comment.

What might this mean for students who share their writing online? Students that share their writing online may be able to gain valuable feedback and encouragement. Sharing with an online community, they may meet others who are interested in the same.

Write something about who you're following and the tags you've used. The people who I am following are those I work closely with. I haven't checked out all of the blogs yet but will get to them eventually. As far as tags go, whatever I key thing that I write about is usually the tag I give.

Thing 3 - Wiki's

I've only used a couple of wiki's. Wikipedia and JICSWIKI (http://www.jicswiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page). The JICSWIKI is a wiki that has anything to do with Jenzabar's JICS web portal. I have not used the wiki too much but remember thinking that it seemed kind of clunky getting around in. I felt that it was hard to find information that I was looking for. I admit, I haven't been back to the site since it first came out and I'm sure there is a lot more information out there now. I wonder how the name Wiki came about?

Happy Birthday Blake!!

Wow, it's hard to believe my youngest turned 14 years old today. Blake had a few friends spend the night. They had a bonfire, played video games, and eventually went to sleep out in the camper. This morning they woke fairly early and started in on the video games. Mike made them breakfast and then they headed to the paintball park.
They seem to have a lot of fun when they go paintballing sp?? ... I'm staying home and diving into a good book curled up on the couch while it storms outside. The idea of being shot at with a paintball gun doesn't sound very appealing to me. Especially when I see the welts that the boys come home with. Looks like it hurts!

Below is a picture of Blake and his friends.

Blake and his birthday cake.

Here is a picture of one of his birthday presents. He wanted a pair of Chuck Taylors that he designed. Unfortunately they won't be here for another 3-4 weeks since I didn't realize how long they take to make them! These are not the exact ones, (I could't figure out how to get a pic of the ones he designed...) I'll post when the shoes actually arrive and can take my own pic of them. He ordered a size 10. I can't believe how big his feet are getting. He has bigger feet than the rest of us!

Well, Blake, I hope you have the best birthday yet! You are a very special person and I love you tons!

Thing 2: Cloud Computing

Grow delicious fruits and vegetables and raise adorable animals on your very own farm, with the help of your Facebook friends.

I just don't get this one!!

With Picnik you can quickly edit all your online photos from one place. It's the easiest way on the Web to fix underexposed photos, remove red-eye, or apply effects to your photos.

I use google calendar but haven't used google docs yet.
